Almondbury Casuals vs Wealdstone Corinthians, Thongsbridge, 2.30pm,

Sunday, July 17th  2005

This year we have the pleasure of Wealdstone resuming their tour to the nether regions of West Yorkshire, culminating in the Ashes test at Thongsbridge. Despite a weather affected summer to date, the Casuals have shown potential – but not all at the same time.

This year’s game should be particularly keen, as Jagger’s future as a match captain rests on his successful campaign to reclaim the “Jagger-Netherwood Trophy”, so cruelly wrested from him during last year’s brief sojourn to the smoke. Corrective surgery over the winter has sorted most of his problems and a new look Casuals team, including some silly haircuts should do him proud.

Jean Jagger has also been in practice on the tea making front, and she and the Casuals Committee would be delighted if you could join them in a pleasant afternoon appreciating the fine cricket and reminiscing about how much better it was in the good old days…..

Jack Wade, who apparently has some fine memories of Lady Feversham behind the hen hut, sent me the attached cutting extolling the virtues of Farndale, where archaeological evidence exists which appears to confirm the existence of Casuals in the area in prehistoric times (a fossilised scorecard was excavated from the Gents Urinal, behind the aforesaid hen hut – Bransdale Farmers 111 for 5, Casuals 23 all out).

The committee and President look forward to seeing you there, hopefully in rude good health, together with your excuses for the lowest recorded Casuals score in history.
